You know that man from "Light at the End"?
Just yesterday, it occurred to me that he was like the complete opposite of the Beast from "Over the Garden Wall".

That's interesting! How do you mean?

Mr. Math (as you so nicknamed him) is like the Beast's complete counterpart.

(And just to clarify, I don't mean the Beast from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast",  I mean the dark scary antler Beast from the mini-series "Over the Garden Wall").

Respectively, the Beast signifies shadows, fear, superstition, and being kept in the dark
whereas Mr. Math signifies light, reasoning, education, and being enlightened.

The Beast tells lies and preys upon those who are emotionally lost.
Mr. Math tells the truth, and he encourages those to escape their emotional ditch.

Wow, those are some great observations! I think you're right. Interesting what a contrast there is between the characters when they see someone in a vulnerable state.

Thanks! :aww:

There was one time I imagined what would happen if Mr. Math tried to give Wirt guidance (figuratively and literally).

By the way, I was wondering if Mr. Math's trademark "42" is a tribute to "Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy", or was it unintentional?

I'd have to think about that! Wirt always tried to use logic with Greg, so maybe his mind is open to the way Logic would communicate with him. What did your brain turn up when you imagined the conversation?

The reference was completely intentional! I'm happy you noticed. :)

You have a point about Wirt being more open to Logic.
It also helps that Wirt is submissive, so he's literally not one to argue with Logic.

At the same time, however, I imagined Wirt growing irritated with Logic at times,
because every time he thinks up an excuse for how they got lost, Logic would use truth to nullify his argument.

That's true. Wirt is a pretty irritable guy, not gonna lie. Now you've got me thinking about this scenario...
